A cross-party group of 221 British Members of Parliament has called on Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government to officially recognize the State of Palestine ahead of the upcoming United Nations summit in New York.
In a letter addressed to the government, the lawmakers urged swift action, citing France’s recent announcement of its intention to recognize Palestine during the UN gathering.
The signatories include MPs from a wide range of political parties, including Labour, the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats, the Scottish National Party (SNP), the Green Party, Plaid Cymru, the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP), as well as several independents.
The appeal reflects growing parliamentary pressure on the UK government to take a clearer stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, amid renewed international momentum toward a two-state solution.
Lawmakers emphasized the urgency of recognition as a means of supporting Palestinian rights and advancing peace efforts in the region.
