The British government announced on Thursday that former members of the armed forces aged under 65 could be recalled to service, as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s readiness for any potential war arising from what it described as “global threats.”
The move is part of a series of reforms included in proposed amendments to the Armed Forces Act, aimed at expanding the United Kingdom’s “strategic reserve forces,” which may be mobilized when needed and include both military veterans and reservists.
According to Agence France-Presse, the government believes the measure will enhance Britain’s defense capabilities and improve its preparedness amid growing international security challenges.
