The UK government announced Tuesday that it has removed Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) from its list of designated terrorist organizations, as part of a policy shift toward re-engagement with Syria’s new government led by Ahmad al-Sharaa.
London said the decision followed a comprehensive inter-ministerial review.
HTS was designated in 2017 as an al-Qaeda affiliate, but the move reflects changing political dynamics and ongoing reassessments of the conflict landscape in Syria.
