Ukraine Recovers 1,000 Soldiers’ Remains in Exchange Deal with Russia

Kyiv announced today  that it has received the remains of 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers killed in combat with Russian forces, as part of a prisoner and remains exchange agreement reached during talks in Istanbul in early June.

The Ukrainian authorities overseeing prisoner-of-war matters said in an official statement that the handover is part of the broader deal that also facilitated the exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia on June 9, which included the return of the first group of Russian soldiers under the age of 25.

This recovery marks a significant step in honoring the fallen while continuing diplomatic efforts to manage ongoing wartime humanitarian concerns.
