Ukrainian Parliament Approves Yuliya Svyrydenko as Prime Minister

The Ukrainian Parliament approved Yuliya Svyrydenko as the new Prime Minister today, succeeding Denys Shmyhal, who resigned two days ago. The appointment was confirmed by a vote of 262 out of 450 members, marking the largest government reshuffle in Ukraine since the crisis with Russia began in February 2022.

Svyrydenko, 39, previously served as Minister of Economy and Deputy Prime Minister since November 2021. President Volodymyr Zelensky formally endorsed her appointment prior to the parliamentary vote.

Before the vote, Zelensky addressed Parliament, mentioning future agreements with the United States that he said would strengthen Ukraine’s position, though he did not provide further details.
