The United Nations estimated on Monday that around 300,000 people have fled South Sudan in 2025 due to escalating clashes between supporters of President Salva Kiir and his former deputy, Riek Machar, accused of crimes against humanity.
The violence began in March in the country’s northeast before spreading southward, raising fears of a renewed civil war—seven years after the previous conflict that killed more than 400,000 people.
