UN Declares Famine in Gaza; Hamas Calls for Ceasefire and Opening of Crossings

The United Nations and international organizations announced the spread of famine in Gaza, warning that over half a million people face catastrophic hunger.
They called for an immediate ceasefire and guaranteed delivery of humanitarian aid.

Hamas described the UN announcement as a “condemnation of the occupation” and demanded the opening of crossings and an end to the “war of extermination.”

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed the report as “false,” while UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated that “starving civilians is a war crime.”

The UK government called the famine in Gaza a “moral scandal,” adding that Israel’s refusal to allow sufficient aid into Gaza has contributed to this man-made disaster.
