The United Nations announced Thursday that fuel has entered Gaza for the first time in 130 days, offering only minimal relief amid an escalating humanitarian crisis.
UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stated during his daily press briefing that a UN team managed to cross into Gaza from Israel on Wednesday, delivering 75,000 liters of fuel.
Dujarric warned that the delivered amount “does not cover even one day’s needs” in the blockaded enclave, where fuel shortages threaten to shut down critical services including hospitals and water systems.
“Fuel in Gaza is running out,” he said, “and all services may soon grind to a halt unless consistent supplies are restored.”
The Gaza Strip has been under a tightened blockade and persistent military operations for months, pushing its infrastructure to the brink of collapse.
