The United Nations Security Council will convene an emergency meeting on Thursday to address Israel’s latest military assault on Syria, following a formal request submitted by Algeria.
Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Munir Akram, whose country currently holds the Council’s rotating presidency, confirmed the session will take place at 3:00 PM New York time
The meeting comes in response to Israeli air raids launched early Wednesday that targeted over 160 locations across four southern Syrian provinces: Damascus, Rural Damascus, Daraa, and Sweida.
According to Syria’s Health Ministry, the strikes killed three civilians and wounded 28 others, mostly in central Damascus.
The Council is expected to hold heated deliberations over repeated violations of Syrian sovereignty and calls for restraint amid rising regional tensions.
