UN to debate resolution to end Sudan war

The UN Human Rights Council will vote next week on a draft resolution calling for a ceasefire in Sudan and the creation of an independent international monitoring mechanism.

The draft describes violations against civilians as “war crimes and crimes against humanity,” urging referral of perpetrators to the International Criminal Court.

It stresses accountability, warns of the risk of genocide, and recommends rehabilitating vital infrastructure and launching a civilian-led political transition to end the conflict that began in April 2023.
