The United Nations on Tuesday called on the Taliban to restore internet and telecommunications services after a widespread blackout cut millions of Afghans off from the outside world.

The UN mission warned of severe consequences for the economy and the humanitarian crisis, while monitoring group NetBlocks described the outage as “total and nationwide.”
