The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Sunday evening that it will impose a naval blockade on Iran starting at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time (14:00 GMT) on Monday.
In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM said its forces will begin enforcing a ban on all maritime traffic entering or leaving Iranian ports, in line with an announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The statement added that the blockade will be applied neutrally to vessels of all nationalities traveling to or from Iranian ports and coastal areas, including those along the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
CENTCOM clarified that freedom of navigation will not be affected for ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz en route to non-Iranian ports.
It also noted that commercial shipping crews will receive additional guidance and official notices prior to the enforcement of the blockade.
