The administration of President Donald Trump has deported nearly 100 Iranians from the United States to Tehran following months of negotiations between the two governments, officials from both sides confirmed, according to The New York Times.
Iranian officials said a chartered plane arranged by Washington departed from Louisiana late Monday and was expected to land in Iran on Tuesday. A U.S. official, speaking before the plane took off, said the plans for the flight were “in their final stages,” Agence France-Presse reported.
The deportation marks a rare moment of cooperation between Washington and Tehran, despite the longstanding tensions that have strained relations between the two countries.
