A United Nations draft resolution calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza was not adopted after the US vetoed it, despite 14 votes in favor and no abstentions.
The resolution, drafted by the ten non-permanent members of the council, also demands the release of all hostages held by Hamas.
It describes the humanitarian situation in Gaza as “catastrophic” and calls for the immediate and unconditional lifting of all restrictions on access to humanitarian assistance and ensuring its safe distribution.
