Von der Leyen Calls for Talks With Iran to End Middle East Conflicts

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called for negotiations with Iran to help end ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, saying the time has come for a diplomatic solution.

Speaking on Tuesday at a joint press conference in Canberra with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, she said the situation in the Middle East is of critical importance to global energy supplies.

Von der Leyen noted that rising oil and gas prices are having ripple effects across economies, impacting both businesses and societies.

She stressed that “the most important thing is to reach a solution through negotiations and end the conflicts we are witnessing in the Middle East.”

Her remarks came after US President Donald Trump said he had held “very good and productive” talks with Iran over the past two days and ordered a five-day delay in planned strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure.
