WHO Warns of Cholera Outbreak and Rising Hunger in Sudan

The World Health Organization announced that Sudan has recorded nearly 100,000 cholera cases since July 2023, amid worsening hunger, displacement, and diseases caused by the ongoing conflict.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that progress in combating cholera remains fragile despite vaccination campaigns, citing weak surveillance systems and damage to water and sanitation infrastructure.

He added that recent floods may exacerbate the health crisis and the spread of diseases such as malaria and dengue fever, placing the population at increasing risk.
