Wildfires in the Galicia region of northwestern Spain forced authorities to declare a heightened state of emergency after consuming over 200 hectares amidst strong winds and high temperatures.

Residents of several villages were evacuated and closed as a precaution, while more than 30 firefighting units, including aerial and military units, were deployed.

Alerts were sent via mobile phones urging residents to follow safety instructions.
