Yemen’s state news agency SABA reported late Thursday that the Saudi-backed Presidential Leadership Council accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Salem bin Breik and appointed Foreign Minister Shaea Mohsen Al-Zandani as the country’s new prime minister.
According to the agency, bin Breik formally submitted his resignation, which was approved by the council, before Al-Zandani was tasked with forming the next government.
The move comes amid growing tensions over the Yemen file between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in recent months, reflecting differences over political and security arrangements in the country.
