China announced on Friday the resumption of Japanese seafood imports, ending a months-long suspension imposed over food safety concerns related to Japan’s release of treated wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the ocean.
In an official statement, China’s General Administration of Customs said the decision followed “a thorough review of Japan’s regulatory measures and their compliance with international standards,” noting that authorities will continue inspections to ensure the safety of imported goods.
The move marks a significant step toward easing trade tensions between the two countries and restoring the flow of Japanese seafood exports, a key component in bilateral trade.
