Colombia declared three days of national mourning on Wednesday for the victims of the powerful earthquake that struck the country on Monday and killed 234 people.

A presidential decree ordered flags to be flown at half-mast at government buildings and diplomatic missions throughout the mourning period, while search-and-rescue operations continue.

The Director-General of the World Health Organization said 24 health facilities were damaged by the earthquake, in addition to damage to water networks, creating operational challenges for medical facilities.

The earthquake measured 7.4 in magnitude and was felt by residents in Venezuela, Ecuador, and Panama.
