At Least 10 Killed, Others Missing in Quarry Landslide in Indonesia’s West Java

At least 10 people were killed and six others injured on Friday following a landslide at a quarry site in Cirebon, West Java province, Indonesia, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).

Rescue operations are ongoing as emergency teams continue searching for individuals believed to be trapped under debris. Television footage showed excavators removing massive rocks at the site while rescue workers transported body bags to ambulances.

Local broadcaster Kompas TV reported that around 10 people are still missing, though the disaster agency has yet to confirm an exact figure. The landslide also buried heavy equipment, including three excavators, under tons of rock and soil.

The BNPB stated that search and recovery efforts will continue through Saturday, as authorities race against time to reach potential survivors.

Landslides are a recurring hazard in Indonesia, especially in mountainous and mining-prone regions. The combination of unstable terrain and unregulated excavation practices increases the risk of such deadly incidents, particularly during the rainy season.
