A construction worker was killed and nine others injured when a violent storm struck Val-d’Oise, northwest of Paris, on Monday evening, toppling three cranes in the town of Ermont.

Authorities said four of the injured are in critical condition and reported significant material damage to residential sites.

More than 80 firefighters and 50 police officers were deployed to secure the area, as officials urged residents to stay indoors amid unstable structures and debris.
