Argentina: Parliamentary Committee Accuses President Javier Milei of Fraud

An Argentine congressional investigative committee has released a report accusing President Javier Milei of alleged fraud, following his earlier promotion of a cryptocurrency that crashed shortly after its launch.

The committee—led by opposition lawmakers—said the evidence it reviewed “may correspond to possible fraud,” holding President Milei, his sister and top aide Karina Milei politically responsible for the financial losses suffered by investors.

Investors reportedly lost hundreds of millions of dollars after Milei promoted the digital currency “Libra” in a social media post stating, “The world wants to invest in Argentina’s Libra.” The currency surged briefly before collapsing within a single day. Although Milei later claimed he was unaware of the project’s specifics, critics argue he played a direct role in endorsing it.

Dozens of legal complaints have since been filed against Milei and those involved in the Libra project, and these cases have been consolidated into a single judicial investigation.
