South Korea Raises Health Alert After New African Swine Fever Case

South Korea raised its health alert level after confirming the sixth African swine fever case since the start of the year.

Yonhap reported that the Disaster Management Agency received a notification of a new infection at a farm in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province.

Though the disease does not infect humans, it spreads rapidly among pigs and can be fatal.

Authorities issued a red alert — the highest level — in an effort to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread.
