Portugal is preparing for a general strike on Thursday called by the General Confederation of Portuguese Workers (CGTP) and the General Union of Workers (UGT) to protest the government’s proposed labor law amendments.

This will be the eleventh strike in 51 years and reflects strong union dissatisfaction with measures perceived as threatening the protection of workers’ rights.
