North Korea Re-Elects Kim Jong Un as Workers’ Party Secretary-General

The Workers’ Party of Korea has re-elected its leader, Kim Jong Un, as Secretary-General during its ninth congress, held every five years.

The official news agency reported that Kim has strengthened the country’s “war deterrence” by advancing its nuclear capabilities.

The congress is the highest decision-making body of the ruling party, which has governed the country since 1948, and is attended by thousands of delegates and observers.
