Paris has barred U.S. Ambassador Charles Kushner from holding direct meetings with French government ministers after he failed to attend a session addressing remarks by President Donald Trump’s administration regarding the killing of a far-right activist.

France’s Foreign Ministry described the absence as a lapse in diplomatic obligations, while noting that communication would continue through other channels.

The decision comes amid recurring tensions between the two sides over French domestic issues.
