A military cargo plane carrying cash crashed shortly after takeoff near Bolivia’s capital La Paz on Friday, killing at least 15 people and injuring several others, officials said.
Fire department chief Pavel Tovar said multiple people were injured in the incident but did not specify whether the fatalities were among those on board the aircraft or motorists on the highway below.
Authorities said the plane veered off course shortly after takeoff, struck at least 12 vehicles in the neighbouring city of El Alto, and came to rest in a nearby field.
Images circulating on social media showed banknotes scattered across the crash site.
Officials did not immediately provide details on the cause of the crash or the number of people on board.
