Iraqi security sources told Reuters on Saturday that the US Embassy in Baghdad was targeted by a rocket attack.

The sources said the attack caused smoke to rise from the embassy building, without providing further details about the extent of the damage.

Meanwhile, the Associated Press quoted Iraqi security officials as saying that security forces shot down a drone that was targeting a US diplomatic facility near Baghdad International Airport.

Officials also reported that a helicopter landing pad inside the US Embassy compound in Baghdad was struck by a rocket attack.
