Israeli Expert: Iranian Cluster Missiles Cause Severe Damage

An Israeli expert said on Sunday that cluster missiles launched by Iran are causing significant damage in Israel.

According to Israel’s Maariv newspaper, Aharon Godiner, the former commander of the Fire and Rescue Authority in the Ramat Gan–Givatayim area, said Iran has been launching daily barrages of ballistic missiles toward various parts of Israel.

The newspaper added that Iran is also using cluster missiles, which carry submunitions that split apart in the air, making them particularly dangerous.

Godiner explained that the missiles break apart at high altitude, spreading fragments over an area that can extend several kilometers wide.

He said the cluster submunitions, each weighing between three and five kilograms, can cause serious damage to buildings and vehicles, as well as start fires and create craters in roads.
