Switzerland Rejects Two US Overflight Requests Under Neutrality Law

he Swiss government said on Saturday it had reviewed requests from US military and official aircraft to fly over its territory, rejecting two requests and approving three in accordance with Switzerland’s neutrality law.

In a statement cited by Reuters, the government said the neutrality law prohibits flights by parties to a conflict if they serve military purposes related to the war.

However, overflights are allowed for humanitarian and medical purposes, including the transport of wounded individuals, as well as flights not connected to the conflict.

The decision comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East after Iran threatened to expand the ongoing war by targeting any facility in the region linked to the United States following a US strike on a major Iranian energy hub.

US President Donald Trump also said he expects many countries to send warships to the region.
