Argentina’s government announced on Tuesday that it has designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, according to an official statement from the presidency.
Under the decision signed by President Javier Milei, the designation enables the imposition of financial sanctions and operational restrictions aimed at limiting the group’s activities within the country.
The statement added that the Argentine government is “determined to realign the Republic of Argentina with Western civilization,” while condemning and confronting those who seek to undermine it.
Since taking office in December 2023, Milei has steered Argentina’s foreign policy closer to the United States and Israel, backing their positions and military actions related to Iran.
In January, Argentina had already added the IRGC’s external arm, the Quds Force, to its list of terrorist entities.
Argentine judicial authorities have also held Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah responsible for the 1994 bombing of the AMIA Jewish community center in Buenos Aires, which killed 85 people and injured hundreds.
