U.S. media have identified the suspect in the shooting near the White House Correspondents’ Dinner venue as Cole Thomas Allen, a 31-year-old from Torrance, California.

Reports said the suspect works as a teacher and video game developer, with no prior criminal record and no history of being monitored by law enforcement.

President Donald Trump was evacuated from the event at a Washington hotel as a precaution following the incident.

Washington police confirmed the suspect was staying at the hotel and noted that the investigation remains in its early stages.

Trump said initial assessments suggest the attacker acted alone, adding that federal agents are conducting a search of his home in California.
