Rising Suicide Cases Reported Among Israeli Soldiers in 2026

Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that at least 10 soldiers have died by suicide since the start of 2026, including six in April, along with two police officers.

The report highlights growing psychological strain within the security forces amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Citing soldiers and mental health experts, the newspaper pointed to a “series of failures” in addressing mental health needs, including reduced support programs and limited presence of specialists in the field.

It also noted challenges in effectively tackling the issue, particularly when affected individuals do not seek help.

According to Haaretz, the rise in suicides is part of a broader trend that began with the outbreak of the war in October 2023, with 2025 recording the highest number in 15 years.
