A U.S. administration official confirmed that the United States has issued the necessary visas for Iran’s national football team and essential support staff to participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while emphasizing that strict security measures remain in place.
Speaking to The Athletic, the official said that players and key staff members have received the required visas for the tournament.
The official added that U.S. authorities will not allow the visa process to be used to bring individuals who could pose a security threat into the country under false pretenses.
Iran’s team had faced months of uncertainty regarding travel and visa arrangements amid escalating political and military tensions following strikes targeting Iran in late February.
The U.S. statement follows earlier reports that Iranian football officials encountered difficulties during the visa application process ahead of the tournament hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
