The death toll from the double earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 1,943, as search and rescue operations continue in the affected areas.

Speaking on Tuesday, Venezuelan Parliament Speaker Jorge Rodríguez said that more than 10,571 people have been injured, while rescue teams continue searching for survivors trapped under the rubble.

Venezuela was hit by two powerful earthquakes on June 24, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, causing widespread destruction across several regions.

On June 26, the United Nations Development Programme estimated the direct material damage caused by the earthquakes at approximately $6.7 billion.
