The Yemeni army announced that eight of its soldiers had been killed in clashes with Houthi forces on the Al-Maqatirah front in Lahj governorate, southern Yemen.

In a statement issued on Saturday evening, the Tur al-Bahah military command confirmed that the soldiers had been killed during fighting but provided no additional details about the circumstances of the confrontations. The Houthis issued no immediate comment.

The escalation comes amid renewed military confrontations since last July, described as the most extensive fighting since the period of relative calm that followed the United Nations-brokered truce announced in April 2022.
