At least two people have died after torrential rainfall triggered severe flooding in eastern Spain, according to local authorities.

Video footage showed streets submerged in floodwaters and vehicles partially or completely underwater in the towns of Beniarbeig and Oliva, in the Valencia region near Alicante.

Emergency rescue teams continued evacuating stranded residents, while authorities urged people to remain indoors for their safety.

The Valencia region was among the hardest-hit areas, with several towns cut off and residents stranded as floodwaters continued to rise.

Helicopters were also deployed to assist rescue operations, while approximately 2,000 people were evacuated from seven campsites in Oliva.
