France Imposes Partial Curfew Following Violence and Looting During Protests

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced a partial curfew in designated areas starting Monday evening following violence and looting during protests across the country over the weekend.

Lecornu said he had instructed local prefects to implement the measures to restore public order, without specifying all the areas that would be affected.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez also announced an increased deployment of police and gendarmerie forces ahead of the following weekend.

Meanwhile, authorities imposed a curfew in the town of Dounan from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. local time, with the measure remaining in effect until October 25.

The protests, driven by concerns over the rising cost of living, were marked by clashes, the looting of shops, and an arson attack on the historic city hall building in Limoges.
