India: Authorities Order Evacuation of 100,000 People Ahead of Powerful Cyclone

Indian authorities ordered the evacuation of approximately 100,000 people from coastal areas in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha ahead of the expected arrival of Cyclone Arnab on Wednesday, according to the country’s meteorological authorities.

Forecasters warned that the cyclone could make landfall with winds reaching speeds of up to 150 kilometers per hour, posing significant risks to coastal communities.

Heavy rainfall and rough seas have already affected several coastal areas, raising concerns about flooding and possible damage to infrastructure.

Meanwhile, schools were closed in Sri Lanka following warnings of heavy rainfall that could trigger flooding and landslides.

Authorities in both Nepal and Sri Lanka also issued weather alerts as a precaution against the potential effects of the severe weather system.
