Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Tuesday warned U.S. President Donald Trump against threatening his country’s sovereignty, amid escalating tensions between Bogotá and Washington.
Trump, speaking at a government meeting in Washington, hinted at possible strikes against Colombia in efforts to combat drug-related crime, saying Colombia produces cocaine and sells it to the United States, and that anyone involved would be a target.
Petro responded by inviting Trump to visit Colombia to see the country’s anti-drug efforts firsthand, including the daily destruction of nine cocaine laboratories to prevent drugs from reaching the United States.
