Philippine authorities announced that Tuesday’s 6.9-magnitude earthquake in the central region has killed 72 people and injured around 300, affecting more than 170,000 residents.
The destruction was concentrated in Bogo City, Cebu province, where 87 buildings were destroyed and hundreds of homes, bridges, and the port were damaged.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. visited the area on Thursday to inspect the damage and offer condolences.
The quake comes days after a powerful storm killed 37 people, as Washington offered assistance.
