It was announced on Sunday evening that former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari passed away in London at the age of 82 after a long battle with illness.

Buhari is a prominent figure in modern Nigerian history, having assumed the presidency after winning the March 2015 elections, and was re-elected for a second term until 2023.

He previously served in the army and held high military positions after studying in Britain.
