France and UK Agree on Pilot Deal to Return Migrants Between Both Countries

French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a new pilot agreement to return irregular migrants between their countries, concluding a three-day French state visit to the United Kingdom.

The plan, dubbed the “one-in, one-out” approach, will allow the UK to return undocumented migrants arriving via small boats to France. In return, Britain will accept an equal number of legal asylum seekers with existing family ties in the UK.

The deal was unveiled during a joint press conference, where both leaders also announced bilateral agreements on defense, nuclear cooperation, and a contingency plan to support Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire.

The initiative is part of broader efforts by both nations to strengthen border security and address rising challenges linked to irregular migration across Europe.
