A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck off the southwestern coast of Japan on Wednesday.

The U.S. Geological Survey said in a statement that the epicenter was located 8 kilometers east of the Wadomari area in Kagoshima City.

It added that the quake occurred at a depth of 42 kilometers below the Earth’s surface.

According to initial reports from Japanese authorities, no injuries or damage have been reported, and no tsunami warning was issued.
