Pakistan’s military said on Wednesday it intercepted four drones launched from Afghanistan, marking the latest escalation in months of tensions between the neighboring countries.
According to the military, Afghan Taliban forces launched four improvised drones across the border into Balochistan Province on Tuesday, adding that Pakistan’s air defense network detected and intercepted them immediately.
The incident follows the Taliban government’s pledge to retaliate for Pakistani airstrikes in eastern Afghanistan earlier this week. Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defense also said it had carried out air operations targeting militants in Pakistan’s border regions.
Pakistan’s military warned that if what it described as provocations by the Afghan Taliban continue, Islamabad will respond decisively and impose a heavy cost.
