Philippine authorities have arrested seven individuals as part of a comprehensive investigation into a major corruption case involving flood-control projects worth an estimated $2 billion.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the detainees are part of a broader network of officials and intermediaries implicated in so-called “ghost projects”, where funds were disbursed without any actual construction.
The government has pledged further prosecutions as the country braces for a new wave of inquiries into systemic corruption.
