Political and media attention remains focused on the results of the Democratic Party primaries in New York after three candidates backed by the party’s progressive wing secured nominations for congressional races.
The primary elections held on Tuesday saw Brad Lander, Darielys Avila Chevalier, and Claire Valdez win Democratic nominations in their respective districts, a result viewed by observers as evidence of the growing influence of progressives within the party.
Lander defeated incumbent Representative Dan Goldman in the 10th District, while Avila Chevalier unseated Representative Adriano Espaillat in the 13th District. Valdez secured the nomination in the open 7th District race.
According to U.S. media reports, the victories represent some of the most significant achievements for New York’s progressive movement this year, with strong political and organizational backing from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
