Qatari-Operated Gas Tanker Transits Strait of Hormuz Amid Regional Tensions

Maritime tracking data has shown that a gas tanker operated by a Qatar-based company has transited the Strait of Hormuz, departing from Gulf waters in what is reported to be the first such passage since the start of the U.S.-Israeli conflict involving Iran.

According to the data, the gas carrier “Al Kharratiyat,” with registration number (9397327), departed from Ras Laffan port in Qatar and is scheduled to discharge its cargo at Qasim port in Pakistan.

The movement comes amid rising regional tensions that continue to affect maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route through which a significant share of the world’s energy supplies passes.
