Russia has handed over the remains of 6,060 Ukrainian soldiers to Kyiv as part of the humanitarian agreements reached during peace negotiations held earlier this month in Istanbul, Turkey, Russian delegation chief Vladimir Medinsky announced Monday.
In a statement posted on Telegram, Medinsky confirmed that Moscow fulfilled its commitment under the Istanbul talks by transferring the bodies to Ukrainian authorities. He added that Ukraine, in return, has handed over 78 bodies of Russian soldiers. Medinsky also noted that prisoner exchange operations between the two sides are ongoing.
Separately, Ukraine’s Prisoner of War Coordination Center reported on Telegram that it has received 1,245 bodies from Russia according to the Istanbul agreement.
These exchanges come amid continuing efforts by both sides to ease the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict through recovery and repatriation of deceased soldiers.
